Training the next generation of policy makers
Between 2014 and 2016 I co-led the Cabinet Office Policy School, a skills development programme designed to equip rising leaders with the skills, expertise, and insights needed to excel as 21st-century public servants.
Participants in the programme enjoyed an immersive five day ‘learn by doing’ experience, which culminated in a pitch to the Cabinet Secretary.
In 2016, my Policy School organisers and I came runner up for the Civil Service Above and Beyond Award for delivering this initiative.
Beyond Policy School, I also built Whitehall implementation capability by delivering highly-rated training sessions on structured thinking, implementation analysis and related tools to policy makers.

“I have been hugely impressed with Policy School - an excellent imaginative example of how we can harness the talents and energies of current civil servants and embrace a creative, immersive learning concept that really drives participants to get the most out of the experience.”
— Jeremy Heywood, Cabinet Secretary
Policy School: Next Generation
With colleagues from Cabinet Office, I organised and hosted a one day policy game for 25 GCSE students, looking at how the civil service works and how policy is made.
The event included high profile guests speakers, practical workshops introducing common policy making tools and time for teams to develop a policy idea, culminating in a Dragons Den style pitch session around the Cabinet Table in Downing Street.
